Here is a summary of the practical work that we in Worcester City Mission have done so far ...

Personal Evangelism

The Tuesday morning evangelism work continues and takes place between 10.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon each Tuesday.

Many people are contacted, and the response is usually very encouraging, with people being very open to talking about their personal beliefs.

We are praying for new opportunities to share the Gospel during this time, and for God to touch the lives of those contacted.

Soup Run

This is a source of great encouragement!

In the past we have worked with the Salvation Army to extend the provision of their "soup run", which operates on a Friday evening on the streets of Worcester. We are pleased that we were able to extend it to Saturday evenings. On average, we have served about 20 people.

We are going out almost every Saturday evening, between 7.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. We are still looking for more volunteers to build on the early success of this work. Also, we need tins of food (soup, vegetables, baked beans, etc.) to help us feed these people.

Youth Work

This is one area that we want to develop again. So, if you are interested in youth evangelism, please contact us - we would love to hear from you!

Food Vouchers

In Summer 2001, the WCM were offered a gift, completely out of the blue. Then in October 2001, we were contacted by a City Centre Church asking us to help with a problem. The Food Voucher scheme was put to them and after much positive discussion, WCM agreed to draw up plans for its introduction and distribution, and to find a chip shop that would accept them. This has now been implemented. For the costs that we have arranged with the "Chippy", we can now distribute at least 100 vouchers.

Update - The Lydia Project and Worn Again

Sadly, the Lydia project and Worn Again are no more. But we have to move forward and we are now working on our latest outreach projects - watch this space.

Can you help us?
You may be able to help us with these important tasks - but maybe you don't know it yet!

Open Air Work

Our Saturday "Open Airs" resumed in April 2001. Since then, we have regularly been out in the city centre (weather permitting!). Before we go out on the streets, we meet for prayer. This usually takes place at 10.00 a.m. in the lounge at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Pump Street.

Our Tract

"Finding The Way In Worcester"

This is an evangelistic tract promoted and produced professionally. It is aimed specifically at Worcester, and it uses some of the sights and history of the city in order to present the Gospel. We are distributing this tract now.

Prayer Needed!

Please pray for our work -

  1. Soup Run, Open air meetings, 1-2-1 personal work, Home visits, Clothing and furniture distribution. It is most exciting as we seek to serve the Lord in and around Worcester City Centre.
  2. For more volunteers (needed) to help with our Soup Run on Saturday evenings; while thanking God for those we already have who are so willing.

Many thanks for your support.
